Sunnbüel – the winter sports area for skiers and snowboarders
The high Alpine plateau above Kandersteg is home to a superb winter sports area offering extensive views and guaranteed snow.
Here, both families and novice skiers will appreciate the quiet conditions and the wide, open runs. Cross-country fans, meanwhile, can tackle the Höhenloipe high-level route. From the mountain station of the Sunnbüel cable car, the 8 km-long trail runs down to Spittelmatte. The loop then returns to the mountain station via Sennhütten and Arvenwald. The Sunnbüel-Gemmi region is also well known as an area for ski touring. Tour destinations include the peaks of Balmhorn, Altels, Rinderhorn, Daubenhorn, Wildstrubel, Roter Totz and the Tatelishorn.

Winter hiking
Altelsblick - Circular hike at the foot of the Altels
The newly laid out and well groomed circular hiking trail is particularly suitable for connoisseurs.

Winter hiking Gemmi
Already Thomas Cook walked on these paths, which leads from Kandersteg to Leukerbad. A special mountain railway ticket is available for the winter hike.

Snowshoe hikes
Sunnbüel - Stock
Snowshoe hike with wonderful view into the Gasterntal valley and of the village of Kandersteg. From the Sunnbüel mountain station it is downhill to the ""Stock"" viewpoint (1832 m), and from there through the Wintertäli back to the starting point.

Sunnbüel - Spielmatte
Starting from the Sunnbüel mountain station, the marked trail leads beyond the winter hiking trail to the Spittelmatte (1853 m), past an mountain hut and back to the starting point.

Cross-country skiing
Sunnbüel may not offer the largest cross-country skiing area in the region, but it offers the most snow-proof. And with dressing room, single-level boxes and showers available to cross-country skiers in the mountain station, the most luxurious!

On request and subject to prior reservation, the Kandersteg-Sunnbüel cable car will operate early departures (approx. 07.30 hours) on weekends in March and April for ski-touring groups of 4 people or more.
