Railway infrastructure register RINF

As part of the second stage of railway reform 2, Switzerland has adopted the EU directive on railway interoperability. The directive stipulates that each country must publish a register of railway infrastructure containing the current infrastructure parameters. The register must be updated regularly.

It is available to all interested parties who need information about the railway infrastructure. It provides a standardised description of the technical and operational aspects of the railway infrastructure. The documentation can be consulted after registration using the electronic form.

Before a railway undertaking can use a section of track, it must be ensured that the rolling stock used complies with the technical requirements of the infrastructure concerned.

Rolling stock manufacturers and railway undertakings can enquire whether and on which line their current or future rolling stock can be used, or what technical requirements the rolling stock must meet in order to be able to operate on a line. Confirmation of the conformity of the rolling stock with the infrastructure requirements is an essential prerequisite for the route-specific authorisation of the rolling stock.
