At over 3,000 metres above sea level, an impressive winter landscape awaits you on the Hockenhorngrat, with views of numerous four-thousand-metre peaks. Choose between the easy winter panorama trail and a more challenging snowshoe tour to the Lötschenpasshütte.

Various winter trails around the Hockenhorngrat lead through the snow-covered high-alpine landscape. Those who prefer a more leisurely pace can enjoy the views on well-prepared paths, while more demanding snowshoe routes lead deeper into the alpine winter scenery.
Along the way, impressive views of the peaks of Valais and the Bernese Oberland open up time and again.
From the mountain station of the Hockenhorngrat ridge, the high-alpine snowshoe tour leads down below the imposing Hockenhorn into an impressive landscape towards the Lötschen Pass. The Lötschenpasshütte refuge sits at an altitude of 2,700 metres and delights visitors with stunning views of the mountain world. It is well worth taking a break in the cosy hut (from 27.12.2025). The ascent back to the Hockenhorngrat at 3,100 metres begins immediately afterwards.
Important Notes: The route leads through high alpine terrain and is only open in good weather. We recommend starting the hike by 10.00 a.m. and leaving the Lötschenpasshütte to return by 1.30 p.m. If you would like to enjoy the untouched nature for longer, an overnight stay at the Lötschenpasshütte refuge is recommended.

Europe's highest winter hiking trail
The well-groomed trail leads from the mountain station of the glacier railway to a unique vantage point with views of 40 four-thousand-metre peaks. Thanks to the cable car ride, you can easily reach 3100 metres above sea level. The easy winter hiking trail begins behind the mountain station of the glacier cable car and runs parallel to the ski slope downhill to the viewpoint with the new viewing platform. Follow the same route back to the mountain station. Here you take the cable car and then the 3-seater chairlift to Stafel. Now you can walk down to Lauchernalp or take the 6-seater chairlift back to the Lauchernalp mountain station.

Lötschen Pass Hut (from 27 December 2025)
Stop off at the Lötschen Pass Hut and treat yourself to some culinary delights. From 3 a.m., you can enjoy a delicious breakfast with homemade bread. During the day, you can look forward to regional specialities, homemade cakes and drinks, including Bernese beer and Valais wine. In the evening, a sumptuous menu is served, which can be adapted to special diets or vegetarian requirements.
Would you like to spend an unforgettable night on the Lötschen Pass? Then reserve a place to sleep, because you can also stay overnight at the Lötschen Pass Hut and continue your hike the next day.
Lauchernalp Panorama Restaurant
The Lauchernalp Panorama Restaurant is located directly at the mountain station of the cable car. Here you will find a large selection of Valais specialities and typical Swiss dishes. Cheese slices, Älplermagronen, hamburgers or fine salads as well as freshly baked cakes every day.
