Locomotive depot and historical collection of the BLS Foundation
Historic locomotives and railway objects to touch and marvel at
In the BLS Foundation's depot, you can take a guided tour of historic locomotives and admire the collection of historical artefacts from BLS history.
Original locomotives, from the Ce 4/6 and the Ae 6/8 to the "Blue Arrow" or the Ae 8/8 "Muni", bear witness to the glorious past of BLS and its predecessor railway companies. You may also be interested in the collection of many railway objects and the large collection of posters, brochures and uniforms – or you can enjoy a film screening. You might even find a bargain in the small shop of curiosities.
Private group tours are possible at any time by prior arrangement.
Program
Experience the pioneering achievements of BLS past and present on an exciting guided tour of the BLS Foundation locomotive depot. In 1913, as steam locomotives were hauling goods trains at 26 km/h on the Gotthard, the world's most powerful electric locomotives were pulling both passenger and goods trains at 50 km/h on the Lötschberg over the mountain route. In the 1930s BLS purchased light railcars, and in 1944 it acquired the world's first high-performance locomotive without a carrying axle, the Ae 4/4. Here you will encounter legends of transportation such as the "Blue Arrow" or the "Budgerigar", contemporary witnesses of Swiss travel history in the industrial design of the time.
