Welcome to the Wilderness Trail in Kandersteg!
Kandersteg is a holiday resort in the Bernese Oberland and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch (Saja). Have you ever given any thought to what wilderness actually means? Wilderness is important!
On the Kandersteg Wilderness Trail, you’ll find nine posts where you can learn all about the topic of wilderness. You’ll gain insights into various topics such as climate change, plants and animals, and health, as well as what these have to do with wilderness. Observation tasks, activities and quiz questions will challenge you to think actively. Scan the QR code and follow the instructions. Now go from post to post, learn new things about wilderness and solve the puzzles. Have fun with it!

The trail is of course free to walk. A supporting contribution can be made on a voluntary basis.
In nature, there are a few rules that must be observed.

Learning package for primary schools
Ideally prepared for the Kandersteg Wilderness Trail
A new free, practical and tailor-made learning package for the Wilderness Trail in Kandersteg is now available for primary school teachers. The learning package supports the preparation and follow-up of the visit to the Wildnis Trail and introduces pupils to key topics in an age-appropriate way.
The following topics are covered in class:
- Wilderness
- Climate and climate change
- Unesco World Heritage Site
The learning package has deliberately been designed as a comprehensive proposal. It offers teachers a high degree of flexibility and can be adapted to specific situations, shortened, or supplemented with additional teaching content and learning materials.

There are plenty of restaurants in Kandersteg where you can refuel after you’ve explored the Wilderness Trail. Of course, there’s also the option of taking a picnic.
