There are many splendid houses with impressively painted façades along the Simmental House Trail. They are all architectural gems – and bear witness to a bygone era of prosperity in this valley, generated through mountain farming and the world-famous Simmentaler cows.

The “Heimathuus” Museum in Zweisimmen is open at the following times from May to October:

The Upper Simmental House Trail is signposted with brown waymarkers from Boltigen Railway Station. These provide information about the age, architecture and special features of historically significant houses.

Depending on your fitness level and the time of year, the Upper Simmental House Trail can be divided up into separate subsections.

Zweisimmen Local History Museum
Would you like to see a typical Simmental house from the inside? At the “Heimathuus” in Zweisimmen, you will receive interesting insights. The Local History Museum summarises the history of the Upper Simmental. The building dates from 1647 and is preserved in near-original condition.
