High above Lake Biel, between the villages of Prêles and Ligerz, lies the theme trail “In the Footsteps of Friedrich Dürrenmatt: A Universe of Words and Color”.
The themed trail consists of 13 playful and educational stations that shed light on the life of the world-renowned author Friedrich Dürrenmatt. Did you know that Dürrenmatt, who is best known for his plays and crime novels, was a passionate painter and draftsman throughout his life? On this themed trail, you’ll discover all facets of the Swiss author!

You can easily reach the starting point of the themed trail by public transportation. You can begin the trail in Ligerz or Prêles. To get to Prêles, transfer to the Vinifuni in Ligerz.
Themed trail
Follow Lulu, the cockatoo, and get to know the writer and painter Friedrich Dürrenmatt (1921–1990).
The 5-kilometer-long, easily accessible trail consists of 13 interactive stations, each highlighting a different facet of the world-renowned author. You’ll discover that Dürrenmatt wasn’t just a Swiss author famous for his plays and crime novels, but that he had many other sides waiting to be discovered!
The themed trail is available in German and French and is aimed at a broad audience aged 12 and up. QR codes provided at each station also allow you to access interesting and amusing anecdotes. Don’t forget to wear good shoes and weather-appropriate clothing (it’s usually quite sunny and warm in the vineyards).

Train
Take the train to Biel/Bienne, then continue on to Ligerz. The funicular is located across from the Ligerz train station.
Boat
Take the train to Biel/Bienne, then continue by boat to Ligerz. From the boat station, it’s a 5-minute walk to the funicular.
