Option 2: Bern–Kandersteg–Brig–Kandersteg–Bern (journey time: 3 hrs 20 mins)

This round trip takes you along the 100-year-old mountain railway line following the northern approach to the Lötschberg, via Kandersteg and Goppenstein, over viaducts and through spiral tunnels to Brig. Enjoy the views of the mountains of the Bernese Oberland, Lake Thun and the Rhône Valley as it comes into view.

Bern–Trubschachen–Lucerne–Interlaken–Bern (5-hour journey)

On the Kambly Round Trip, you’ll enjoy Switzerland in all its glory. You’ll set off from Bern and travel to Trubschachen. Stunning views of snow-capped mountains and blue lakes are just as much a part of the experience as the journey through idyllic countryside and past quaint villages. You can stop off for a culinary treat at the Kambly Experience in Trubschachen. You’ll then continue on to Lucerne and return to Bern via Interlaken. Along the way, shopping and sightseeing in the three world-famous tourist destinations of Lucerne, Interlaken and Bern provide plenty of variety.

Bern–Kandersteg–Brig–Montreux–Zweisimmen–Bern (journey time: 6 hrs 45 mins)

On this round trip from Bern to Brig and back to Bern via Montreux, you’ll have the chance to enjoy two classic train journeys. From Bern, you’ll travel on the RegioExpress along the breathtaking, over 100-year-old Lötschberg mountain route to Brig. The journey continues through the Rhône Valley on the InterRegio to Montreux. There, you’ll enjoy a lunch stop before boarding the GoldenPass Express. Thanks to the large panoramic windows, you’ll experience the landscape up close as you travel. You’ll pass through picturesque towns such as Château-d’Oex and Gstaad on your way to Zweisimmen. From there, you’ll return to Bern.

Bern–Spiez–Kandersteg–Goppenstein–Brig–Domodossola–Locarno–Bellinzona–Bern (journey time: 7 hrs 30 mins)

You’ll set off from Bern and travel on the RegioExpress via Spiez along the Lötschberg mountain route to Brig. Along the way, you’ll enjoy magnificent views of the Kander Viaduct and the Rhône Valley. From Brig, the journey continues to Domodossola. There, you’ll board the Vigezzina-Centovalli railway to Locarno. Here, you can marvel at rugged mountains, deep gorges and over 83 bridges. If you have time, stay overnight in Domodossola or Locarno and enjoy the evening in the piazza before setting off on the return journey via Bellinzona back to Bern.
