Lötschberg mountain route & Centovalli
A panoramic journey from Bern to Locarno
The BLS RegioExpress and the Vigezzina-Centovalli Railway take you on a journey with fantastic views and charming excursion destinations.
The round trip by rail follows the more than 100-year-old Lötschberg mountain route, crossing viaducts and passing through spiral tunnels all the way to Brig. From Brig, it is only a short distance to Domodossola. From here, the journey continues on the Vigezzina-Centovalli Railway to Locarno. Along the approximately 50-kilometre narrow-gauge railway line, you travel at a leisurely pace across 83 bridges and through 31 tunnels, passing light-filled chestnut forests, the vineyards of Merlot del Ticino and small villages.
Bern–Spiez–Kandersteg–Goppenstein–Brig–Domodossola–Locarno–Bellinzona–Bern
Day 1
Travel by train from your place of residence via Bern/Spiez on the RegioExpress to Brig. Continue through the Simplon Tunnel to Domodossola (Italy). In addition to its beautiful old town, Domodossola is also known for its popular Saturday market and for hikes to Sacro Monte Calvario, an Unesco World Heritage Site. Overnight stay in Domodossola.
Day 2
Breakfast at the hotel. Travel on the Centovalli Railway through the “Valley of a Hundred Valleys” and the Vigezzo Valley to Locarno, followed by an overnight stay (you can also continue to Ascona and stay overnight there).
Day 3
Breakfast at the hotel and journey home.

A journey on the BLS RegioExpress and the Centovalli Railway is an unforgettable experience.
