Hike from Kandersteg to Lake Oeschinen
Discover Lake Oeschinen: one of the finest mountain lakes in the Alps.
Starting from Kandersteg, you reach Lake Oeschinen after approximately 1.5 hours of walking. To make things even easier, you can replace the walk up by a trip on the gondola cableway. From the mountain station, it’s then only around a 20-minute stroll to the Alpine lake.
However, you then miss out on the picturesque high-altitude mountain trail and the breath-taking view of the deep-blue Lake Oeschinen. The trail leads through a splendid nature reserve along glaciers, rocks and lakes to the foot of the Blüemlisalp.
Lake Oeschinen is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is regarded by many as the most beautiful mountain lake in the Alps. Cosy mountain restaurants and comfortable spots are perfect for a relaxing break. If the water is too cold for a swim, you can hire a rowing boat and explore the lake that way. Or continue your walk on one of the many available routes.
Mountain hike from Kandersteg to Lake Oeschinen
The hike begins at Kandersteg Railway Station. Walk out of the valley towards the Blümlisalp and cross the Oeschibach brook. Near the station of the gondola lift, the trail then leads steeply upwards to the Alp Oeschinen and onwards through Bergwald to Mount Heuberg. Here the deep-blue Lake Oeschinen literally lies at your feet. Take a break and drink in the beautiful views. The walk now continues over the Oberbärgli before descending via Alpine meadows and rocky ledges to Unterbärgli. From here, it’s just a short walk to the shores of Lake Oeschinen.
