Wildlife observation on the Niederhorn

Niederhorn mountain is an important habitat for many native wild animals. The early morning is the perfect time to observe them.

Why not follow their tracks in the company of a local wildlife expert? He will lead you to the ibex colonies and explain the characteristics of these creatures, so adept at scrambling. If you’re lucky, you might also encounter chamois, marmots and golden eagles.

Travel comfortably by train to Thun or Interlaken West, then continue with the STI bus or PostBus to «Beatenbucht» or «Beatenberg Station». From there, the funicular and the gondola lift take you up to the Niederhorn.

Wildlife observation on the Niederhorn

Experience at first hand how the local wild animals wake up at sunrise and roam the alpine world in search of food. Observe chamois, ibex, marmots, sometimes rock ptarmigan or black grouse at close range.

Meeting point	06.50 from Beatenbucht, 07.05 from Beatenberg, 07.20 from Niederhorn mountain station.

Guided tours

The approximately 6-hour guided tour takes place on Thursday mornings from 9 July to 8 October 2026.

Departure from Beatenbucht: 06.50 hours
Departure from Beatenberg: 07.05 hours

Start of wildlife observation: 07.20 hours
End of the guided tour: 13.00 hours

Registration obligatory

Please reserve your place at least one day before the desired date. If the tour has to be cancelled due to bad weather, you will be informed by 15.00 the day before at the latest.

BLS suggestion

Travel to the area the night before and enjoy the quietness of the mountains. You can stay in one of the subtly renovated bedrooms at the Berghaus Niederhorn.
After the wildlife observation tour, you can also hire a scooter bike for the exciting descent to Beatenberg.
Combine your return journey with a boat trip on Lake Thun.
