The approximately 1.5 km route takes you through colorful alleyways and past buildings that have marked the medieval history of Avenches. Starting from the Place de l'Eglise, the highest point in the town, in front of the Tourist Office, this tour, which can be accompanied by an explanatory brochure, reveals many picturesque places and monuments, as well as a few curiosities known only to the town's inhabitants. At the end of the tour, take the time to visit the Roman Museum, well worth the detour! Here, you'll discover many everyday objects from Roman times, as well as archaeological excavations still taking place in Avenches.

Avenches is easily and quickly accessible by public transport. The town center is about a 10-minute walk from the train station.

The Swiss National Stud

The Swiss National Stud is open all year round and can be visited thanks to a free nature trail. Interested groups of up to 25 people can take part in a guided tour. The guided tours last one hour and 30 minutes (CHF 150.-) during the week and one hour (CHF 100.-) at the weekend. You can find more information here.

A free treasure hunt from the station takes families on a journey of discovery through Avenches.

A children's playground welcomes you on the 2000-year-old promenade in the heart of the old town of Avenches. Several small shops in town offer ice cream to go. 

How to get there

Travel comfortably by train to Avenches. The old town of Avenches, the Roman Museum as well as the Roman site are all in the immediate vicinity of the Avenches railway station and are easily accessible on foot.
