Carnival in Willisau

When the historic town of Willisau awakens from its winter slumber and the drums of the Guuggenmusigen set the beat, it's carnival time again! In 2026, the town will be transformed into a vibrant saloon full of cowboys, sheriffs, and outlaws under the motto “Wild Wild West.” The Karnöffelzunft carnival association and all the carnival organizers invite you to celebrate the fifth season together – full of tradition, colorful costumes, and unforgettable moments.

Travel comfortably to Willisau by train.

Program

The Willisau Carnival 2026 kicks off its peak phase with the theme “Wild Wild West.” The festivities begin with the Senior Citizens' Carnival in the festival hall and the Bleuenfasnacht (Brändiball). This is followed by the Kindergarten Carnival, before the Willisau Town Carnival transforms the old town into a colorful Western backdrop with a parade and carnival celebrations.

A special highlight is Schmutziger Donnerstag (SchmuDo): with the Tagwache (Big Bang) early in the morning, breakfast, mask awards and the children's parade in the afternoon, as well as bar service and the Rathausball in the evening, Willisau is completely dominated by carnival. The following days feature further events such as Heimbescherung, the Güggalifest in Daiwil, and parades and carnival performances in the region (including Wolhusen and Sursee).
