Unesco Ice Walk and winter walking – the unique experience
Walking on the Oeschinen Lake is a very special adventure. You’ll experience the winter, feel the cold on your skin and view the Jungfrau-Aletsch Unesco World Heritage Site up-close. There are two winter hiking trails of different lengths on the lake. You can also watch ice fishermen do their thing on the lake and then warm up by the fireplace in the Berghotel Oeschinensee. From the Oeschinensee mountain station, you can either hike directly or along the panoramic route to the Oeschinen Lake.
With the RegioExpress you travel from Bern directly to Kandersteg. You can reach Lake Oeschinen from the mountain station of the Oeschinensee gondola lift on foot in 25 minutes.
Ice-Walk
Circular trail on Oeschinen Lake
- The circular trail takes 30 to 60 minutes. The length of the trail depends on the conditions on site.
The trail can also be used with snow shoes.
Note:
If there is a risk of avalanches or the ice is not thick enough, the circular trail remains closed.
Winter walk
Läger–Oeschinensee tour - winter walking trail with breathtaking views
Experience three-thousand-metre peaks from a new perspective on a winter walk and enjoy the refreshing mountain air on your skin.
Follow the signposted circular trail in the direction of "Läger" until you reach the beautiful Oeschinensee in around 45 minutes. The way back leads through the forest along the two ski slopes to the top station of the Oeschinen gondola lift.

The fondue set includes our own and home-made fondue mix “Fifty-Fifty”, home-made bread and various spices. Wine, tea, etc. as desired. Also included in the set is a wooden sled for pulling the fondue box, thermo seat cushions and wool blankets.
Simple and straightforward, they can be pre-ordered by 11.00 hours. Simply collect the box from the Bergstübli restaurant at the mountain station and find your favourite spot for your adventure treat.
