Mt. Niesen: the “Swiss pyramid”

Mt. Niesen (2,362 m high) is one of the best-known summits of the Bernese Oberland – not least because of its unique pyramid-like shape and fantastic location high above Lake Thun.

The funicular railway brings you to the top of the mountain, from where the very short, easily followed path can be followed to the viewing platform. And once you’re there, what else is there to do but stand back and soak up the 360-degree panoramic view? Gaze over the Bernese Alps, Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, and across the plain of the Bernese Mittelland towards the Jura Mountains.

Hike from Schwandegg via Niesenalp up the Niesen
