Round trip to Lake Thun and Niesen

An excursion to experience unique panoramic views. See the Bernese Oberland from train, boat and from 2,362 metres above sea level on the Niesen.

Do you fancy sailing across Lake Thun with a view of the Niesen and later watching the boats on the lake from the Niesen itself? It can all be done in a short space of time – and it’s so easy. Travel by public transport with the Saver Day Pass or GA Travelcard - whether by train, bus or boat.

Program proposal

Start your round trip with a leisurely boat ride on Lake Thun and enjoy the view of the Niesen from the water. You will then travel via Spiez and Mülenen to the valley station of the Niesenbahn, which will take you comfortably to the summit. At the top, fresh mountain air and an impressive panorama await you.

Our tip:
Allow plenty of time for the viewing terrace, a short walk towards the summit and a break at the mountain restaurant. The round trip is ideal as a day trip and, depending on your start time, can be combined with coffee, lunch or dinner.

Timetable Available on 25.04.2026

Niesenbahn funicular operating times 25 April – 8 November 2026 (with an option to extend in case of good weather)
By the way: from Mülenen station it is only a 200 m walk to the valley station of the Niesenbahn.
