5 good reasons why public transport is your best hiking companion

Want to travel to your next hiking adventure in a relaxed and environmentally friendly way? Here are 5 good reasons why public transport is the best choice.
A hike in the mountains, through forests or along lakes is a wonderful way to get away from it all and enjoy nature. But what is the best way to get to the starting point of a hike and back again? These 5 reasons show why public transport is your ideal hiking companion.

Environmentally friendly travel

Did you know that you can save almost 20 kilograms of CO₂ emissions on the Bern–Kandersteg route by taking the train instead of the car? By opting for public transport, you are making an active contribution to climate protection and protecting the environment.

Arrive relaxed and stress-free

No traffic jams, no stress on the highway and no annoying search for a parking space: With public transport, relaxation begins as soon as you arrive. You can sit back, relax, take in the scenery and enjoy a coffee or snack in peace during the journey.

More flexibility

With public transport, you are not tied to a fixed start or end point. This means you can decide spontaneously to end your hiking tour at a different location and return from there in comfort by train or bus.

Save money

Compared to the cost of petrol and parking fees, public transport can be an inexpensive alternative. Travel costs can be significantly reduced, especially with supersaver tickets or special offers, for example with the attractive combi-tickets offered in many hiking regions. These combine the outward and return journey by public transport and the use of mountain railroads at a reduced price.

Shared experience

Travelling by public transport is a wonderful opportunity to spend time with friends or family. Being on the road together, planning the hike, and sharing the anticipation – all of this strengthens the sense of community and makes the outing even more enjoyable.
