Which vehicles can be transported?
Find out which vehicles can be transported and which dimensions and weights are permitted. Large and heavy vehicles can only be transported on the Kandersteg–Goppenstein route.
Vehicle categories and limits
Select the appropriate vehicle category and check the permitted dimensions and weights.
Vehicles and trailers up to 3.5t and motorhomes up to 5t can be transported on standard car trains. Coaches and lorries are not permitted on these transport wagons.
The following limits must not be exceeded:
- Width: 2.5 m, including side mirrors
- Total weight: vehicles/trailers up to 3.5t, motorhomes up to 5t
- Height: depending on vehicle width
Most cars and SUVs are generally within these limits. Check the vehicle dimensions carefully, especially for tall vans, motorhomes and vehicles with roof-mounted equipment or luggage.

Is your vehicle larger?
On the Lötschberg Car Transport Service, you can transport your vehicle on trains for large-capacity vehicles at no extra charge.
Important information for caravans
Two-axle caravans measuring 2.5m in width cannot be transported (see the loading dimensions for large-capacity vehicles).
Don't know your vehicle's dimensions?
You can find this information in your vehicle registration document or the manufacturer's technical specifications. When checking the height, remember to include roof boxes, bicycles and any other roof-mounted luggage.
Which lane should I use?
Follow the signs on site. They will guide you to the correct loading lane for your vehicle category.
Note on loading priority
Some vehicles, including those with roof or rear-mounted loads, roof boxes, roof-mounted equipment, soft tops or open loading areas, cannot be transported on the first or last wagons of the train. To ensure optimal loading, other vehicles may therefore be given priority.
Trains for large-capacity vehicles can transport additional vehicle categories and larger vehicles, including motorhomes over 5 t, buses and lorries. These trains run once an hour and operate exclusively on the Kandersteg–Goppenstein route. They are marked with a lorry symbol in the timetable.
The following limits must not be exceeded:
- Length: 12 m (excluding trailer)
- Width: 2.5 m
- Total weight: 28t
- Height: depending on vehicle width
- Buses: max. 2.30 m / max. 22 seats

Which lane should I use?
Vehicles that can only be transported on trains for large-capacity vehicles are given priority for loading on these trains whenever possible. After the payment point, follow the signs for lorries or motorhomes.
Motorbikes, mopeds and bicycles can be transported on all car trains.
