Round trip by boat

You don't want to cycle all around the lake? Hop on board one of the cruises organised by the Lake Neuchâtel and Murten Navigation Company (LNM) and discover the region from the deck of the boat. You can get on in Murten and get off opposite in Vully (or vice versa). You can also redeem vouchers from the Genussbüchlein directly on the boat. We recommend that you book a table in advance with the LNM.

A stop in Murten

During your “Culinary tour around Lake Murten”, you should definitely make an extended stop in the medieval town of Murten. There are picturesque avenues, flower-bedecked houses and romantic arcades for you to discover. The impressive town wall is freely accessible and is unique in Switzerland. It offers amazing views out across the roofs of the town, Lake Murten and the adjacent wine-growing region of Vully, which produces wonderfully fruity wines. You can then indulge in a creamy slice of Murten Nidelkuchen (cream cake) on one of the beautiful terraces beneath the arcades, or take your cake with you and cycle down to the lake. In this idyllic atmosphere, you can then savour this deliciously light Murten speciality while dangling your bare feet into refreshing waters of the lake – a holiday atmosphere is guaranteed!

Notes

The Lake Murten region tempts you with a variety of delicious culinary specialities to try on your gourmet trip:

The wines of Mont-Vully

Vines were brought to Vully by the Celts, and since that time wonderfully juicy grapes have grown here, which are made into excellent wines. With 152 hectares of vineyards, Vully on Lake Murten is the smallest of the large Swiss wine regions. 24 winegrowers cultivate Chasselas (41%), Pinot noir (28%), as well as Gamaret, Merlot, Pinot gris, Chardonnay, Fribourg (Freisamer) and Traminer (Gewürztraminer). The neat wine cellars are happy to open their doors to introduce you to the world of local wine. Tastings are always possible on request.

Gâteau du Vully or Vully cake

Vully cake is a regional delicacy known far beyond the cantonal borders. Originally a sweet speciality, it now comes in a variety of flavours, including savoury versions with bacon, cumin or almonds. The Vully cake goes wonderfully with a glass of Traminer from the region.

Nidelkuchen

The special feature of the Nidelkuchen is that no less than five layers of cream are layered on a light yeast dough. The first three layers combine sweet and sour notes and are incorporated during baking. The resulting caramel layer becomes tender when finally the last two layers of double cream from Gruyère are added. The result is a melting and creamy delicacy.

Fish from Lake Murten

Numerous restaurants in the Lake Murten region offer a variety of fish specialities. Egli, zander, whitefish, lake trout and pike are offered in most restaurants in the region. In selected restaurants you can also try catfish, the largest freshwater fish in Europe.

Bike hire

Bicycles and e-bikes can be rented directly at Murten station from Rent a Bike. We recommend that you reserve the bike in advance via the booking tool.
