Hockenhorngrat-Lötschenpass snowshoe trail

From the mountain station of the Hockenhorngrat ridge, the high-alpine snowshoe tour leads down below the imposing Hockenhorn into an impressive landscape towards the Lötschen Pass. The Lötschenpasshütte refuge sits at an altitude of 2,700 metres and delights visitors with stunning views of the mountain world. It is well worth taking a break in the cosy hut. The ascent back to the Hockenhorngrat at 3,100 metres begins immediately afterwards.

Important Notes: The route leads through high alpine terrain and is only open in good weather. We recommend starting the hike by 10.00 a.m. and leaving the Lötschenpasshütte to return by 1.30 p.m. If you would like to enjoy the untouched nature for longer, an overnight stay at the Lötschenpasshütte refuge is recommended.

The snowshoe trail is closed in the event of snowfall or poor weather conditions. Please seek information in advance whether the high-alpine trail is accessible.

The post bus runs hourly with a connection in Goppenstein to the RegioExpress.

Travel comfortably by train to Goppenstein. From Goppenstein station the post bus (direction Blatten/Fafleralp) takes you to within 10 minutes to Wiler (Lötschen), Talstation. Now we continue with the cable car to the Lauchernalp. Continue with the 6-seater chairlift to the Stafel, where you board the 3-seater chairlift and then the gondola lift to the Hockenhorngrat.

Stop at the Lötschenpasshütte refuge and let yourself be spoilt with culinary treats. You can spend the night here and resume your hike the following day.
