Advantages of shift work
More flexibility for everyday activities and free time during the week
Irregular working hours are part and parcel of mobility. Of course, it's not always pleasant to work when others are off. But shift work also has some benefits: days off during the week allow you to organise your everyday life and free time more flexibly. You also benefit from less traffic when commuting and the opportunity to swap shifts.

«What I particularly appreciate about shift work is the flexibility: during the week, I can deal with my personal matters without any hurry and enjoy spontaneous meetings with friends. The time with my grandchild is also valuable. We can visit Dählhölzli Zoo together on a free morning, which means a lot to both of us.» Silvia, BLS Cargo control centre |

«With days off during the week, I can go on outings with family and friends in a more relaxed way, as there are fewer people around. Thanks to the allowances, I also have more free time and a bit more money at my disposal. I can also deal with public bodies flexibly, without having to take extra time off work.» Tilo, BLS Cargo control centre |

«I love spending time in the mountains and in nature. I particularly appreciate the peace and quiet on the hiking trails and huts during the week. To balance things out, I often go to the spa or the thermal baths. I consider a free Monday in the sauna to be a great privilege.» Kaya, train driver |

«Shift work gives me quiet Fridays. While most people go about their work, I can roam through deserted forests with my dogs, go shopping without queuing and I have popular places almost to myself.» Alex, train driver |

«What I appreciate about shift work is the additional free time during the week as well as the financial and time-related benefits provided by the allowances. I also see the flexibility and the calmer, well-organised cooperation during the night shift as a clear advantage.» Yannik, Spiez Workshop |
