Immerse yourself in the magical atmosphere of the village of Santa Maria Maggiore.

A wonderful Christmas atmosphere awaits you in Santa Maria Maggiore in the Valle Vigezzo. With more than 200 stalls decked out in a chalet style, the traditional Christmas market brings a warm glow to the streets and little piazzas dotted around the historic village. Typical sights to behold along the way include the evocative fire pits carved out of fir trunks and all manner of different treats to try at various food stalls, from mulled wine and traditional “Stincheet” oatcakes through to roasted chestnuts and local dishes.

Rates & How to get there

With the RegioExpress Bern – Spiez – Kandersteg – Brig – Domodossola you travel comfortably from Bern direct to Domodossola.
From Domodossola Train Station, it’s an approximately 8-minute walk to the departure point of the Vigezzina-Centovalli Railway. The journey from Domodossola to S. Maria Maggiore takes around 40 minutes.

The Domodossola–Santa Maria Maggiore route is included in the GA travelcard and 1-day travelpass (both directions). Seat reservation not included.
