E-Bike tour to Creux du Van

Active in the Val-de-Travers

The tour starts at the Asphalt Mines in Travers. There, you can pick up your reserved e-bike and equipment. Then it’s time to hop on, start pedaling, and head toward Creux du Van. Thanks to electric motor assistance, you’ll conquer the climb up to Creux du Van with ease, allowing you to enjoy the diverse natural landscape of the Neuchâtel Jura. The Val-de-Travers offers numerous local specialties. Along your round-trip route, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to treat yourself to some culinary delights.

You can easily reach the starting point at the Asphalt Mines in Travers (station: La Presta Mines d'asphalte) by train. You can pick up your rented e-bike right at the entrance to the Asphalt Mines and return it there.

E-Bike Rental

Travel comfortably by train to your destination, pick up your bike right at the entrance to the Asphalt Mines, and start your bike tour.

Reserve your rental bike online or by phone in advance.
Payment is due on the day of rental directly at the rental station.
Riding an e-bike is permitted for ages 16 and up (or ages 14 and up with a moped license).
CHF 5.00 discount with a Half-Fare or GA. The discount applies to the entire booking.
Groups: A 20% group discount on everything (including return fees) is available for bookings of at least 10 rental items. Discounts with GA/Half-Fare are no longer available.
Schools: The 30% school discount on the Bike / MTB-V-Brake category (Price Category 1), accessories, and return fee applies to bookings by school classes accompanied by a teacher with a minimum of 10 rental items.

Route

A pleasant ride through the Val-de-Travers

Discover this unspoiled region by e-bike. The signposted Tour No. 412, the Creux-du-Van Tour (Veloland – schweizmobil.ch), starts at the Asphalt Mines in La Presta. Hop on, start pedaling, and off you go through the Val-de-Travers up to the Creux du Van. At the top, enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the Jura and the Alps. Then head down to Couvet, where you should ideally add a detour to Môtiers. Combine your excursion with a visit to the Asphalt Mines.

Asphalt Mines

Explore the underground tunnels. On this journey into the heart of the mountain, you’ll learn how miners extracted asphalt for nearly three centuries, creating a labyrinth of tunnels totaling 100 kilometers. First, enjoy the house specialty: ham cooked in asphalt. Guided tours of the Asphalt Mines are available in German, French, English, and Italian.

Môtiers

Discover the charming village of Môtiers in the heart of the Val-de-Travers.

Note:

The Asphalt Mines are open daily from 1 April to 1 November. Guided tours take place at 10.30 and 14.00 hours In July and August, there is an additional tour at 12.00 and 16.00 hours.
The Absinthe House is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10.00 to 18.00 hours and on Sunday from 10.0 to 17.00 hours.
