History historic rail vehicle

The Ae 6/8 (up until 1939: Be 6/8) was procured in two series: No. 201–204 from 1926 to 1931 and No. 205–208 from 1939 to 1943.

The electric component was supplied by Société Anonyme des Atéliers de Sécheron (SAAS). The mechanical section for No. 201–204 was manufactured by the Italian company SA Ernesto Breda, while No. 205–208 were built by Swiss Locomotive and Machine Works Winterthur (SLM).

The second series (No. 205–208) was built as the Ae 6/8 with a gear ratio that enabled a top speed of 100 km/h. In order to ensure that express trains would be able to travel at a speed of 100 km/h on flat segments, the first four locomotives were also equipped with new traction drives in 1939 and converted into Ae 6/8 units.

The Ae 6/8 with the number 205 was presented at the National Fair in Zurich in 1939.
