Hockenhorngrat winter panoramic trail
The highest winter hiking route in Europe
The winter panoramic trail on the Hockenhorngrat is Europe’s highest winter hiking trail at 3,100 meters above sea level. The well-prepared route takes you from the Gletscherbahn gondola mountain station to a unique viewpoint offering a view over forty 4000-metre peaks.
This easy winter hike allows you to feel like a real mountain climber. Thanks to the cable car ride, you will effortlessly reach 3100 metres above sea level. The winter hiking trail starts behind the mountain station of the glacier cable car and leads parallel to the ski slope downhill to the viewpoint with the new observation platform. Follow the same route back to the mountain station. Here you board the gondola lift and then the 3-seater chairlift to Stafel. Now walk down to Lauchernalp, or take the 6-seater chairlift back to the Lauchernalp mountain station.
From Bern, the RegioExpress Bern–Brig will take you directly to Goppenstein in just 70 minutes. From there, you can continue with the postal bus to Wiler, valley station.
