Mooraculum – Moorland adventure park in the Alps
A natural wonder to discover
The Rossweid in Sörenberg is the meeting place for families - the colourful moors enchant with unique flora and fauna. Here, young & old will find everything their hearts desire: ponds with water play equipment, an explorer's pass with tasks, climbing adventures, the hanging chair forest and picnic areas. It also borders directly on the large sun terrace of the Rossweid adventure restaurant. Here parents, grandparents, godparents and godfathers can relax with a cool drink while the little ones play in the sand directly in front of the sun terrace or romp around on the climbing equipment.
Travel by train directly from Bern and Lucerne to Schüpfheim and then by bus to Sörenberg. The bus stop is right opposite the valley station of the Rossweid gondola lift.
Great Moorland circular trail
Do you know what a moor is? Moors are truly special landscapes that can only develop in places where the ground is permanently waterlogged. They take an extremely long time to develop, are very rare and therefore closely protected. Moors provide a habitat to unusual animals and flesh-eating plants; mosses form on the peat soil typical of this environment – which grows by about 1 mm a year. It therefore takes around 1,000 years for a metre of peat to form. Fascinating, isn’t it?
Expedition into the unknown
Yet this is not the only mystery to be explored on the Great Moorland Circular Trail. Extending over about 5 km, this adventure trail leads from Rossweid over the Salwiden and back to Rossweid. The unique habitat, the way it developed, its plants and animals with their diverse survival strategies, but also the myths, images and tales that surround the moor, form the focus of this varied walk. The expedition guests will be accompanied by six experts who have spent their lives here and who know all the moor’s secrets: participants will encounter a wolf, lynx, common frog, large marsh grasshopper, subarctic darner and wood grouse at the 17 interactive stations, where the creatures tell their personal stories – by moorland telephone!
Out on the moor in the role of explorer
The interactive stations require participants to solve puzzles, find the right combinations and prove their pioneering spirit. Real adventurers can pick up an explorers’ set, which contains expedition equipment, at the valley or mountain station of the Rossweid gondola lift. A magnifying glass, compass and other aides will help you to collect interesting research materials. In addition, there are tricky tasks to be completed, whose solutions are entered on the “moor-whisperer’s pass”. The right solutions will earn you an explorer’s reward at the end.

How to get here
Travel by train from Lucerne or Bern to Schüpfheim. Here you change to the PostBus line 241 and travel to Sörenberg, Post Office. The valley station of the Rossweid gondola lift is not far from the bus stop.
