Onion Market (Zibelemärit) in Bern
The annual market in Bern with a folk festival flavour
Held on the 4th Monday of November every year
The “Zibelemärit” – the local dialect word for “Onion Market” – is an annual market with a folk festival flavour. Much of the produce on offer consists of onions (woven into braids, wreathes and figures), although there are also textiles, jewellery, ceramics and toys for sale. The market is held on the 4th Monday of November every year. It spreads over the main streets and surrounding alleys of Bern’s upper Old Town as well as the Waisenhausplatz and Bundesplatz squares.
Date Available on 25.11.2019
Officially, the market is open from 6 to 18 hours. In fact, however, the first stalls are already up and running from 4 in the morning! For many people, the highlight each year is the confetti fight, which begins at 16.00 hours. Additional long-distance and regional trains will be running, while extra seating capacity will also be provided on many lines. The normal range of tickets will be available.
