«Lötschberger» – BLS’s excursion train

«Lötschberger»
The train for the Lötschberg mountain route and the Simmen Valley.
Since the timetable changes of 14 December, the new, comfortable Lötschberger low-floor trains have been in operation. The air-conditioned trains with the conspicuously large windows run from Berne to Spiez, and from there to Zweisimmen and to Brig via Kandersteg in two “wings”. Thanks to an automatic train coupling system, the trains to/from Brig and Zweisimmen can be separated and joined up in Spiez.
The Lötschberger trains run from Brig and Zweisimmen to Berne and the other way round seven times a day during the week, eight times a day on Saturday, and at hourly intervals on Sundays.
Owing to supply bottlenecks on the part of the industry, the whole scheduled number of Lötschberger trains will unfortunately only be in operation in spring 2009. Thanks to the Lötschbergers’ compatibility with NINA, the wing concept to Brig and Zweisimmen can be safeguarded.
