Information and tips for group travel
Group travel is more economical
Groups of 10+ participants profit from a 20 per cent reduction on the standard fare (including tickets purchased with the half-fare card). Every tenth passenger travels free of charge.
Pupils, students, young people and Jugend+Sport groups up to 25 years of age
Group prices for children aged up to 16 also apply to
pupils in classes of the compulsory 9th school year and from public and private
secondary schools, students of universities and other institutions of higher
education up to the age of 25;
young people up to the completed 25th year of age from schools for the deaf
and for the blind/partially sighted;
young people up to the completed 25th year of age from orphanages, homes
for disabled people and approved schools;
members of Jugend+Sport groups.
Annual Rail Season Tickets are welcome
Needless to say, passengers with general annual tickets are fully taken into account with regard to both the minimum number of participants and the free journeys. This provision is not applicable to people with day tickets purchased at half fare, with municipal day tickets, with the Gleis 7 card, as well as children up to 6 years of age or with a children’s half-fare card, children travelling free of charge with a junior card, as well as dogs with a dogs’ day ticket.
Exploration tour included
Tour guides with a sense of responsibility like to explore the route of their choice in advance. We support their efforts and fully reimburse a previous exploration tour of the same route after the purchase of a group ticket.
The quickest way is the best way
Unnecessary train changes are often not greatly appreciated by travelling groups. For this reason we recommend that you choose the most direct connection wherever possible. Please note, however, that group travel is not permitted in a number of trains, which are marked accordingly in the railway timetable.
This is a safe seat
If you order your group ticket at least two working days before you go on your journey, we will gladly book seats in trains, buses and ships for you free of charge. Please note that no seats can be booked in regional trains and that for certain special trains with a surcharge (such as the Glacier Express), bookings must be made earlier.
Pulling out of the outing
If you have to po119 a.m. on the previous day.
A good start to a good trip
We recommend that you assemble your travel group at the railway station a quarter of an hour before departure to distribute the members' tickets that you receive with the master ticket.
Staying at home is free of charge
If people who have registered but for some reason or other are prevented from joining at the last minute, you can have the actual number of passengers confirmed free of charge at the railway station up to 30 minutes before the start of the journey, or you can notify the train staff on the outward and return journeys. After the trip, we will return the relevant amount to you or offset it on the invoice. For this purpose, we will require the confirmed group ticket and the unused members’ tickets. You will be charged a fee of CHF 20.00 for each application.
With BLS to school or skiing camps
When school classes travel, they carry a great deal of luggage. For only CHF 100.00, BLS transports up to 30 items of luggage per journey. Within Switzerland, suitcases, bags, snowboards and skiing boots are transported to the camps in this way. The only requirement: the school class must be travelling on a group ticket.
Every staffed railway station will accept the luggage and deliver it. If you hand in your luggage by 7 p.m., it will arrive at your holiday destination no later than 9 a.m.on the next day but one.
You can find further information about lump-sum luggage schemes at » wwwIf your trip is rained out
If you postpone your group trip, there will be no additional costs. If you cancel the trip, we will charge a fee of CHF 30.00 per application.
And this is how you can book a group trip
You can book your group trip with the online form, personally at the railway station, or by telephoning your BLS Travel Centre.
